The Findon Valley Residents Association negotiated with West Sussex Council to take on responsibility for the area in front of the library. Last Autumn a row of overgrown Lavenders were removed and taken away thanks to Findon Valley Tree Care. We improved the soil with a mulch of horse manure and that’s how it stayed for the winter. The decision was taken to plant a small tree and Queen Elizabeth roses also to install two existing benches on hard standing to create a pleasant area to sit.
Paving for the benches was expertly laid by local builder Tony Gladwish and after treating with preservative to freshen them up, the two benches were bought out of the shade and fixed into position. A Crab Apple tree, John Downie, was chosen to plant between them, it will not grow too big and provide beauty in Spring with blossom as well as fruits in Autumn. As well as the seven Queen Elizabeth roses a small range of grey leaved plants and grasses has been planted for year round interest.
A plaque will be unveiled during the Coronation event on Sunday May 7th and the garden will be maintained by Friends of Findon Valley.
