Working Parties

Last weekend we weeded the newly planted hedge at the top of Central Avenue and put in some pots of wildflowers which the South Downs Ranger had acquired. The days contrasted weather wise, Saturday was hot and muggy and Sunday much cooler and better for working.

The hedge is doing well with around 90% of the plants surviving, there’s a way to go yet but if we can keep them going this summer the chances increase as they get established. Aftercare is very important with newly planted trees and shrubs, lots of time and expense acquiring and planting can be wasted if they’re not nurtured in the early months.

A couple of dates:

We hope to complete weeding & mulching the hedge on Saturday 9th July, meet at the top of Central Avenue at 10am.

On Wednesday 13th July we have agreed to assist the South Downs Ranger, Craig Daters to pull Ragwort from the field adjacent to Cissbury Ring. Meet at Storrington Rise car park at 10am.

We have agreed to assist Craig Daters, South Downs Ranger to improve this field for wild flowers.

I hope as many of you as possible can turn out for both or either of these activities. Do bear in mind the weather, protect yourself from the sun and bring along plenty of water and refreshments.

Any queries about any of these activities email me, Matthew Ward on our contact Us Page choosing “Please Select FVRA Contact Here” and clicking “Environmental Officer: Matthew Ward”
