Friends of Findon Valley

Anyone is welcome to join our work parties which are usually on Saturday mornings.

Local Volunteers Wanted

Findon Valley is surrounded by lovely countryside, the fields of Cissbury, woodland, the Gallops and Downs further north. These open spaces are very valuable and enjoyed by many locals and visitors alike.

For just over a year now I have been organising work parties to improve the local environment. We have cleared footpaths, litter picked, thinned Sycamore seedlings, planted a hedge and wildflower plugs, watered and most recently treated the two bus shelters in the valley. It has been agreed that our group will be known as the Friends of Findon Valley, carrying out tasks in agreement with FVRA. Anyone is welcome to join our work parties which are usually on Saturday mornings.

An upcoming project is to improve the area in front of the library, FVRA has negotiated with West Sussex county council to care for the grass between the building and road. At present there is are overgrown lavender bushes and a clump of Bergenias, our intention is to create hard standing for benches around which will be planted a small tree and roses to form a memorial to Queen Elizabeth II.

Our next work party will tackle grubbing out the lavenders and digging over the surrounding bed. It is on Thursday 20th October, meeting at the library at 10am, all welcome!
